20 June 2019 (Thursday), the 108th birth anniversary of poet Sufia Kamal. The day will be celebrated across the countries. Sufia Kamal was born on June 20, 1911, in the Shayestabad Nawab family in Barisal District.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina sent different greetings to the memory of Sufia Kamal. The day will be celebrated on the University, College and the Maximum School & Other Educational Institute of Bangladesh.
The President of Bangladesh said that “Sufia Kamal had struggled throughout her life for the emancipation of women from prejudice,”
The President also said that Sufia Kamal was the founding president of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, and she played an active role in all progressive movements in the country.
The Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Daughter of Sheikh Mujibor Rahman said that I convey my profound respect to the memory of Begum Sufia Kamal, one of the pioneers of progressive, democratic, and women’s emancipation movements in Bangladesh.
