In a recent interview, Comilla Victorians’ Owner, Nafisa Kamal, expressed her confidence in her team’s ability to compete with the top franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL). This comes after the Victorians successfully defended their title by winning the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2023 final against the Sylhet Strikers led by Mashrafe Mortaza.
Kamal attributed her team’s success to their thorough study and research, which included analyzing IPL teams that have made comebacks. She also mentioned that Mohammad Rizwan played a crucial role in boosting the team’s morale by sharing his experience with his Pakistan Super League (PSL) team, Multan Sultans. The Sultans had won the championship after losing six matches.
The Victorians had a rocky start in the BPL with three consecutive losses, but they made a remarkable comeback by winning 11 matches in a row. This not only secured their victory in the final but also set a new record for the longest winning streak (8) in the history of the league.
In the final, Johnson Charles was named the Player of the Match for his outstanding performance. He scored an unbeaten 79 off 52 balls, including seven fours and five sixes. Charles’ contribution helped the Victorians chase down a total of 176 with four balls to spare, cementing their position as a competitive team.
