Christmas is the oldest festivity of Christianity, which annually commemorates the advent of Jesus to this world (December 25th). It is celebrated with great joy and with more popular manifestations, to the degree of which is considered a universal holiday, which even non-Christian peoples celebrate. Christmas explodes on the night of December 24th (Christmas Eve), shines on the 25th, is completed with the celebration of New Year, lasts until January 6th (feast of the Epiphany or Kings), and culminates with the Baptism of Jesus (Sunday following Epiphany).
According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, Christmas is not included in the list of Christian festivals in Irenaeus or Tertullian’s list on the same subject which are the oldest known lists. The earliest evidence of concern about the date of Merry Christmas
Today, commerce has transformed Christmas, designed it as a time for shopping. The joy of Christmas is directly related to how close families can be, it is a time where most people take a break from their busy lives to gather together with their loved ones.
